NuA Korean Medicine Clinic visits and booking FAQ

I don't know which treatment to book.

You don't need to choose the exact treatment area.

When you book, tell us the symptom or concern that bothers you most right now. After you arrive, we listen, examine you and explain which direction is best.

If several problems overlap, just start with the one that bothers you most.

Can I visit without a booking?

Yes. But at times when there are many booked patients, you may have to wait.

To be seen more comfortably at the time you want, it is better to book before you visit.

On my first visit, do I start treatment right away?

First, we listen to your symptoms and when they started, and examine you.

Then we explain what treatment you need and why, and proceed with treatment. You don't need to decide on a specific treatment before you come.

Can I decide on treatment after a consultation?

Yes. You can hear the explanation first.

If you don't know which treatment to get, or wonder whether you really need treatment, just tell us. After the examination we explain the possible options, and you can decide on treatment after that.

Can I ask about several symptoms at once?

Yes. For example, if your neck and lower back hurt together, or you have digestive problems along with fatigue, you can tell us about all of them.

During the examination, we will look at them in order, starting with what needs checking first.

Where is NuA Korean Medicine Clinic?

We are at 5F, Junkyung Tower, 111 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

We are a 2-minute walk from Gangnam Station Exit 12.

If you come by car, you can use the Daegun Building or KG Tower parking lot. If you ask us before your visit, we will explain the parking details.

Pain and Chuna Manual Therapy FAQ

How many treatments will I need?

It differs depending on when the symptoms started and how severe they are.

Pain that started suddenly and pain that has recurred for several months are unlikely to need the same length of treatment.

At the first visit, we look at your condition and explain how often it would be good to come for treatment, then adjust the plan as we see how you respond.

Is Chuna Manual Therapy covered by insurance?

Chuna Manual Therapy (a Korean medicine hands-on therapy for the joints and muscles) can be covered by Korean National Health Insurance. Coverage under Korean National Health Insurance depends on your eligibility and the treatment involved.

However, your out-of-pocket cost may vary depending on which Chuna Manual Therapy you receive and the Korean National Health Insurance coverage criteria. After your examination, we will explain which treatment applies and the cost.

Which should I get: Chuna Manual Therapy, Pharmacopuncture or Acupotomy?

You don't need to choose in advance.

Even with the same symptom of neck pain, treatment can differ depending on whether it hurts when you move, whether it is uncomfortable even when you are still, and how long it has lasted.

After the examination, we will explain whether you need Chuna Manual Therapy and whether to also consider Pharmacopuncture (a treatment that applies refined herbal extracts to acupuncture points) or Acupotomy (a treatment using a fine needle with a flat tip).

Do Pharmacopuncture and Acupotomy cost the same?

They may not.

The cost can vary depending on the treatment method and the area treated, so we explain it after the examination together with the treatment you need.

My neck and shoulders just get stiff often. Is it okay to come in?

Yes. You don't need to wait until the pain becomes very bad.

If your neck and shoulders feel stiffer the longer you sit, or your trapezius muscles keep tightening, we can check which postures make the discomfort come back.

Many office workers in Gangnam who sit all day come to us for consultation about this kind of discomfort.

Car accident FAQ

I was fine right after the accident, but it started hurting a few days later.

Sometimes the neck or lower back becomes uncomfortable some time after the accident rather than right after it.

We start by checking when the accident happened, when the discomfort began and which movement is hardest for you now.

Even if your symptoms appeared late, you don't need to put up with them.

After a car accident, my neck and lower back both hurt. Can I be treated for both at once?

Yes. You don't need to mention only one area.

If you tell us about all the discomfort that started after the accident, such as in the neck, shoulders or lower back, we examine you while checking how your body has changed since before the accident.

Can I get Chuna Manual Therapy as part of car accident treatment?

If needed after the examination, Chuna Manual Therapy can be considered.

Having an accident does not mean every patient gets the same treatment. After checking the painful areas and your movement, we guide you to the treatment you need, such as acupuncture, Chuna Manual Therapy or Pharmacopuncture.

What do I need to prepare for car accident treatment?

Whether auto insurance applies depends on the accident and the insurance policy involved, so if you plan to be treated under auto insurance, things related to the insurance claim need to be checked first.

When you book, please tell us "I'm coming because of a car accident." We will let you know what you need first.

Can I come while being treated at another hospital?

Yes. If you have had tests or treatment before, please tell us during the examination.

If you have materials such as test results or imaging, it can help to review them together.

Facial palsy and shingles FAQ

One side of my face suddenly doesn't move well. Should I come right away?

With facial palsy that appears suddenly, it is important to check the cause first.

In particular, if along with facial palsy your arm or leg becomes weak, your speech becomes slurred, or you have a severe headache or dizziness, you should be evaluated at an emergency medical facility right away.

If it is not such an emergency, we check when it started, your current symptoms, and your previous tests and treatment, and then look at the direction of care.

How long does facial palsy need to be treated?

It differs from person to person.

The length of treatment can also vary depending on when it started, how severe the symptoms are and how much you have recovered so far.

Rather than setting a number of weeks or months from the start, we check the changes during treatment and plan the next step.

I'm already being treated for facial palsy at a hospital. Can I also receive treatment at a Korean medicine clinic?

If you are receiving treatment or taking medication now, please tell us first.

You don't need to stop your current treatment on your own. We review the tests and treatment you have had so far, and after the examination we let you know whether Korean medicine treatment can be considered alongside it.

It has been quite a while since my facial palsy started. Can I still be treated?

Even if time has passed, you can consult us if you still have discomfort now.

We check your condition when it started, the treatment you have had since, how well you can move now and so on, and explain the treatment that can be considered at this point.

My shingles has healed, but the pain is still there.

Sometimes pain or uncomfortable sensations continue even after shingles.

We check when the shingles occurred, the symptoms that remain now and the treatment you have had so far, and then discuss the direction of care.

Diet FAQ

Which is better: pills or decoction?

It is hard to say that one is always better.

We check your appetite, daily patterns, past diet experience, how convenient it is to take and so on, and discuss whether pills or decoction suits you.

You don't need to decide which herbal medicine to take before you come.

How many months should I take diet herbal medicine?

It depends on your goal and current condition.

Rather than deciding on a long period from the start, we check how much weight you want to lose and your past diet experience, and discuss how long to take it.

Even after you start, we adjust the next plan as we watch your progress.

It's my first time taking diet herbal medicine. Will it be okay?

If it is your first time, please mention that during the examination too.

We check your usual health, any medication you are taking, your past diet experience and so on, and then decide whether to prescribe.

If you have an existing condition or take medication regularly, it is best to tell us without leaving anything out.

I lost weight before and gained it back. Can I start again?

Yes. How you lost weight before and when the weight started coming back can also help in planning your diet.

This time, we look not only at your weight but also at your appetite, mealtimes and daily patterns.

If yo-yo dieting has happened again and again, please tell us about that experience as it is.

Is taking herbal medicine all I need to do?

Rather than thinking herbal medicine alone solves everything, it is good to also look at daily care such as your usual meals, sleep and activity level. Instead of making an overly demanding plan from the start, we discuss a direction you can keep up in your real life.

Is remote prescription possible?

Whether telemedicine is possible can vary depending on the regulations at the time of treatment and your situation.

If you would like telemedicine, please contact us first. We will check the currently available method and procedure and let you know.

Internal medicine and personalized herbal medicine FAQ

How is personalized herbal medicine prescribed?

First, we listen carefully to what bothers you most.

During the examination, we check things such as when the symptoms started, how your digestion and sleep usually are, and whether you are taking any medication.

Based on that, we decide on the prescription and, if needed, also look at how you respond after taking it.

How are herbal pills and herbal decoctions different?

First, they differ in form and in how you take them.

But that does not mean one is always better. We look at the purpose, how long you will take it, convenience and so on, and guide you to the form that suits you.

I don't know the exact name of my condition. Can I still be seen?

Yes. You don't need to come with a diagnosis.

Just tell us about the discomfort you are having now, such as "My stomach keeps feeling bloated these days," "I'm tired no matter how much I sleep," or "Every period is so hard."

We will check what is needed during the examination.

Do you offer care for women's health conditions?

Yes. You can also consult us about women's health concerns such as menstrual pain, irregular periods, discomfort before and after your period, and menopause.

We check your menstrual cycle and when the symptoms appear, and guide you to the treatment you need.

What treatments do you use for women's health conditions?

Depending on your symptoms, acupuncture, herbal medicine, mugwort moxibustion and so on can be considered.

For example, mugwort moxibustion is a Korean medicine treatment that warms the areas that need it with heat stimulation using mugwort.

In cases such as when your abdomen feels cold or you have discomfort before and after your period, mugwort moxibustion can be used together after the examination, depending on your condition.

Do I have to take herbal medicine?

Not necessarily.

After the examination, if you need herbal medicine, we explain why you need it and how to take it. If another treatment is more suitable, we guide you to that method.

Gongjin-dan and Gyeongok-go FAQ

What is the difference between Gongjin-dan and Gyeongok-go?

The two herbal medicines differ in their ingredients, form, how they are taken and so on.

If you tell us who will take it and for what purpose you are looking for it, we explain the differences and help you choose.

Why do Gongjin-dan prices differ so much?

Prices can differ depending on the ingredients used, the composition, the amounts and so on.

So rather than comparing price alone, it is better to also check what composition it is made with.

We explain the composition and price of the Gongjin-dan (Traditional Korean Herbal Medicine) offered at NuA Korean Medicine Clinic during your consultation.

I'm thinking of buying it as a gift for my parents. Is that okay?

Some people look for it as a gift.

If you tell us who will take it and their usual health, we explain the difference between Gongjin-dan and Gyeongok-go (Traditional Korean Herbal Formula) and how to take them.

If they are taking medication or being treated for a condition, please let us know that too.

I don't know whether to choose Gongjin-dan or Gyeongok-go.

You don't need to decide in advance.

Just tell us whether it is for you or a gift, and what purpose you are looking for it for. You can choose after we explain the differences.

Skin conditions and atopic dermatitis FAQ

How long do I need treatment for atopic dermatitis?

It varies a lot depending on how long you have had the symptoms and your current skin condition.

At the first visit, we check things such as what treatment you have had so far and when the symptoms get worse.

After treatment starts, we adjust the next plan as we watch how your skin changes.

I'm being treated by a dermatologist. Can I also go to a Korean medicine clinic?

Yes. Don't stop your current treatment on your own, and tell us about the treatment you are receiving as it is.

If you are using ointments or taking medication, just let us know as well.

After checking your treatment so far and your skin condition, we discuss how to proceed with Korean medicine care.

Can I still consult you even though I've had atopic dermatitis for a long time?

Yes.

The longer you have had atopic dermatitis, the more we check together when it started, when it got worse and what treatment you have had so far.

Dr. Jeonghyeon Kim has also experienced atopic dermatitis since childhood, so she tries to listen fully to the discomfort patients feel in daily life as she cares for them.

If I have a skin condition, do I always have to take herbal medicine?

No, not always.

We first check the type of skin condition, its current state, previous treatment and so on. Then we discuss whether you need herbal medicine or whether to consider another treatment.

Skin and beauty FAQ

Which should I get: Cosmetic Acupuncture or MTS?

The two treatments have different purposes, so it is good to first check what bothers you most.

Tell us whether your concern is facial contours or firmness, or skin texture or skin condition.

You can start with a consultation without deciding on a treatment in advance.

How many sessions of Cosmetic Acupuncture or MTS do I need?

The number of sessions you need can vary depending on your skin condition and the area of concern.

Rather than setting a fixed number from the start, we explain a plan after the consultation and schedule the next session as we see how your skin responds.

Can I just have a consultation and decide on treatment later?

Yes.

You can decide after hearing which treatment suits you. You don't have to be treated the same day.

Can I go back to my daily life right after treatment?

Depending on the type of treatment and your skin condition, redness or a stinging feeling may appear temporarily.

If you have an important event, please tell us when you book. We will discuss when would be a good time to be treated to fit your schedule.

I have an important event like a photo shoot or a wedding. When should I get treated?

If the date is set, please let us know first.

Skin reactions differ from person to person, so rather than getting treated for the first time right before an important event, it is better to plan with some time to spare.

Just tell us your schedule and the kind of care you want when you consult.
